Are you paying enough attention to your hydration?

Updated: Apr 7, 2022

Your age, height, gender, activity level, health and environment are all factors to consider when making sure you are drinking enough water throughout the day.

Here are some tips on how to keep hydrated.

  1. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you to hydrate.

  2. You could personalise this alarm to make a funny sound or vibration, so you know when to get your hydration fix.

  3. Always carry water in a bottle with you when travelling to different places. You never know what clean fresh-tasting water is available. As most water bottles are refillable, you can always refill at the tap if the local water is safe.

  4. Remember that you should drink more water when the weather gets warmer or is humid because as you sweat, you lose electrolytes. Those electrolytes need to get replenished. Alka Power has electrolytes to help you hydrate more efficiently.

  5. To check your hydration levels throughout the day, lift the skin on your finger and then release it. Monitor how your skin moves after release. Does it stay in place, or does it fall back into place? If it falls back into place, it means that you are hydrated enough.

  6. Eating fruit and vegetables can also increase your water intake as some of these foods contain high water contents. Cucumber has the highest water value, most greens, watermelon and berries are also great hydration partners.

  7. Check your urine next time you go to the bathroom. If your urine is a very light shade of yellow to clear, you are very hydrated. If your urine is quite dark, you are severely dehydrated. So drink up!

  8. Buy a litre water bottle to track how much water you are drinking as it is much easier to measure and track throughout the day.

  9. Sodas, juices, energy drinks, and sports drinks are quite acidic and can aggravate your stomach. They are difficult to digest and increase dehydration. Water should always be the first beverage of choice to quench your thirst. Here's 3 reasons why to choose Alka Power.

  10. Make sure to dress for the weather. If you wear too many clothes, your body can get stifled and start to work up a sweat.

  11. If you don’t like the taste of tap or bottled water, try alkaline water. Alkaline water has a smooth, crisp taste different from other tap and non-alkaline water. Experiment how you drink water. Squeeze a lemon in your water to give it a zesty taste and to give your stomach a detox.

  12. Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink water because you are most likely already dehydrated by then.
